OVERVIEW
HeRBie — HR Bot — was built to replace the manual process of tracking compliance training deadlines and sending individual reminder emails. Every compliance period, the HR team was spending 30–60 minutes manually checking enrollment status and drafting reminders. At 2–3 compliance periods per month, this adds up.
The bot runs daily automated checks against Workday reports filtered for legal and compliance training topics. When employees have outstanding items, HeRBie sends them a personalized Slack notification — no human involvement required.
The animated bot persona was a deliberate design choice: compliance reminders are often ignored or feel punitive. HeRBie was designed to feel approachable — something employees recognize, engage with, and don't immediately dismiss.

Workday Report Integration
Uses Workday custom reports as the data source, filtered by topic (legal and compliance training). The workflow pulls report data on a scheduled cadence and evaluates each employee record for outstanding items before triggering notifications.

Animated Bot Persona
HeRBie has a distinct visual identity in Slack — a custom avatar and consistent messaging tone designed to feel friendly rather than bureaucratic. The persona was built to improve engagement rates with compliance notifications, which have historically low open/action rates when sent as standard email reminders.
Expandable Architecture
The underlying pattern — Workday report → evaluate → Slack notify — is reusable for any report-driven HR workflow. Currently scoped to legal and compliance with planned expansion to annual performance review reminders, benefits enrollment deadlines, and other recurring HR cycles.
